In depth
The Never Summer Proto Type Two stands as one of the most refined all-mountain snowboards in the Never Summer lineup, built for riders who demand versatility without sacrificing performance. Constructed with the brand's signature Ecopop base and a core blend of aspen and lightweight paulownia, this board delivers a lively, responsive feel underfoot while maintaining the durability that Never Summer is known for. The camber profile featured in the Proto Type Two, often referred to as their Rocker Camber Rocker or RC2 profile depending on model year, gives riders confident edge hold on groomers while still offering enough forgiveness and float to handle variable terrain, from packed powder to soft chop. Designed with the directional twin shape in mind, the Proto Type Two caters to riders who want a board that can carve hard on frontside runs, pop off natural features, and still feel balanced when ridden switch. The slightly setback stance and directional flex pattern give it a natural, planing sensation in deeper snow, while the twin-ish shape ensures it doesn't feel awkward when spinning or landing switch. Riders who enjoy freeride lines but also want to hit the park on occasion will appreciate how the Proto Type Two straddles that line, offering enough stability at speed without feeling like a dedicated powder board or a purely playful park deck. Graphically, the Proto Type Two carries forward Never Summer's understated yet rugged aesthetic, often featuring muted color palettes and topsheet designs that reflect the brand's Colorado roots and no-nonsense approach to snowboard construction. Built to last across multiple seasons, it uses a durable sidewall construction and their proprietary resin system to resist delamination and core shots, making it a reliable choice for riders who spend serious days on the mountain rather than just weekends. For intermediate to advanced riders looking for a true all-mountain performer that rewards aggressive riding while still offering enough playfulness to keep things fun, the Never Summer Proto Type Two remains a standout option within the winter sports gear market.
Customer reviews
I've ridden this board for two seasons now through variable conditions in Colorado. The edge hold is incredible on icy mornings and it still floats great in fresh pow. Highly recommend for intermediate to advanced riders.
This board rewards aggressive riding. I struggled a bit when I first got it since I was used to softer boards, but once I adjusted my technique, it became my go-to for everything from groomers to backcountry laps.
The carbon construction gives this board insane pop off jumps and natural terrain features. It's stiff but not unforgiving. Riding it in Utah powder was a dream.
You definitely pay for the quality here, but the durability and performance justify the cost if you're a serious rider. Not ideal for beginners though.
